Nintendo has recently confirmed that the Nintendo eShop for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 won’t feature any background music to accompany your browsing. It’s a notable shift, especially when you think about how beloved the Wii Shop Channel track is, or recall the varied tunes that graced the Nintendo eShop on 3DS.
Explaining this decision was Kouichi Kawamoto, the producer for Nintendo Switch 2. In a conversation with Polygon, he mentioned, “These days, the [Nintendo] eShop is packed with videos showcasing games. We wanted to ensure that nothing gets in the way of that, hence the absence of music.” Interestingly, he admitted that the old Wii Shopping Channel tune still pops into his head every now and then.
Yet, music aside, Nintendo hasn’t neglected enhancing the overall user experience on the new eShop. Kawamoto emphasized, “I aimed to guarantee a seamless experience. We don’t want lag when scrolling through the list or slow page load times.”
Mark your calendars, as the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to make its global debut on June 5, 2025. Keep an eye out for their overview trailer to see what else is in store for this much-anticipated release!
