Valve isn’t rolling out a brand-new successor to the Steam Deck just yet, but fans have something exciting to look forward to with the upcoming release of a limited edition Steam Deck OLED, now available in a chic white hue.
This new version, aptly named “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” retains the same technical specifications as the current 1TB model but comes with a slightly higher price tag of $679—an extra $30 for the exclusive color. It’s set to hit the shelves on Monday, November 18.
The limited edition doesn’t just stop at the white and gray color scheme. It also includes a matching white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth, adding a touch of luxury to your gaming setup.
Valve isn’t new to experimenting with colors. They previously introduced a limited edition OLED model with a smoky translucent finish, which flew off the shelves despite some aesthetic cracking issues. This time, the white model is expected to be available wherever the Steam Deck is sold, including areas like the United States, Canada, and Europe, as well as in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea, thanks to their partnership with Komodo. Valve plans to distribute stock proportionally across these regions.
To combat scalpers, Valve has put measures in place: only one white Steam Deck can be ordered per account, and the account must have at least one purchase made prior to November 2024.
Valve shared with the press that this second limited edition acts as a sort of market test. They’re keen to see how customers react and will use the feedback to guide future decisions about possible new color variants: “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.”
Of course, if you’re looking to customize, companies like Jsaux and dbrand offer alternative backplates or skins to change up your Deck’s style. But for those who prefer the official Valve touch, this variant is a unique opportunity—while supplies last.
Valve has also hinted at what lies ahead for the Steam Deck, with promises of ongoing updates and discussions about its future and other hardware endeavors.
Looking at the pictures, the new white design has me reminiscing about the Wii U crossed with a classic iPod. I’m curious to see if this sleek new look will be enough to entice current owners to invest in another unit.
