Hey there, gamers! I’m thrilled to walk you through the exciting Two-Lane Battle system featured in the long-awaited addition to SNK’s iconic fighting franchise, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It’s been 26 years since we’ve had a new Fatal Fury game, and this one promises not to disappoint Xbox Series X|S players, especially with its debut today, April 24.
Battle On Two Lanes
So, what’s the buzz about this Two-Lane Battle system? Well, it introduces a fresh twist on the fighting genre with stages designed with both a foreground and a background. This setup allows players to strategically switch lanes during combat using specific moves, which opens up a vast array of strategic possibilities. Whether you’re playing defensively or going on the offensive, the ability to traverse lanes adds layers of depth to your tactical approach.
How It Works
To dive into this nostalgic throwback, start by selecting the Dream Amusement Park “Morning” stage. This is currently the only stage that has the Two-Lane Battles, but keep an eye out for new stages coming soon. Your battle kicks off with both players in the same lane. To switch, simply hit X and RB together. Want to make things spicy? Press A and RB for a jumping lane switch attack—you’ll be pulling off mid-air combos in no time!
When you find yourself in different lanes from your opponent, you can unleash various special attacks. Want to get grounded and deliver an attack? Hit X. Prefer launching an aerial assault? Choose A or B. And if you’re feeling particularly crafty, Y will let you pull your opponent back into your lane.
Fancy stringing some cross-lane combos? Here’s a little something with Rock for you to try:
- X → Y → A + RB → B → Heavy Rising Tackle (Brake) → Heavy Hard Edge
Give these moves a run to really elevate your gameplay!
The Old in the New
Bringing back the Two-Lane Battles is a nod to the roots of Fatal Fury, tracing all the way back to its origin in 1991. It’s more than just a feature; it’s part of the series’ DNA. This mechanic’s inclusion in City of the Wolves is a treat for long-time fans and an intriguing introduction for newcomers. Dive into the training mode and start experimenting; who knows what brilliant strategies you’ll discover! With Two-Lane Battles, both seasoned veterans and first-timers can appreciate the unique chaos that defines Fatal Fury.
