Glover, a beloved classic from Interactive Studios, Piko Interactive, and QUByte Interactive, has made its way onto the Nintendo Switch. If you’re eager to dive into the nostalgic world of this 3D puzzle platformer, our review has you covered!
Originally developed by Interactive Studios—previously known as Dizzy Entertainment and later Blitz Games—this studio was established in 1990 by the Oliver Twins, Andrew and Philip Oliver. They are renowned for creating the iconic Dizzy series. In Glover, players take on the role of the titular character as they navigate through various levels, guiding a ball from point A to point B.
This title, initially released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 alongside Hasbro Interactive, also saw the light of day for the original PlayStation under the Atari Interactive label a year later. Now, fast forward to 2025, and Glover is making a comeback on the Nintendo Switch as part of the QUByte Classic series. Welcome back to the whimsical Crystal Kingdom!
Your adventure in Glover revolves around recovering the lost crystals that power this enchanted realm. After a potion mishap causes a dramatic explosion, the crystals—and Glover—are sent flying in all directions. Quick-thinking Glover transforms the precious crystals into rubber balls, sparing them from shattering. Glover is one of the magical gloves that once assisted the wizard, while the other glove, Glovel, becomes the villainous Cross-Stitch after falling into the cauldron.
In your quest, you’ll explore six distinct worlds: Atlantis, Carnival, Pirates, Prehistoric, Fortress of Fear, and Out of This World. For those determined to complete the game fully, seek out all collectible Garibs, finish each level in these worlds, and tackle the six bonus stages.
Upon starting the game, you control Glover with the left analog stick and adjust the camera using the right one. The X button allows for camera zooming, while the A button handles jumping and double jumping. Use the B button to dribble the ball, and combining jump with ZR triggers a ground pound. L lets you stand on the ball, and holding down B allows for grabbing and throwing. For more challenging obstacles, prepare with the A button to slap the ball across larger gaps. You can even transform the ball’s form using the R button – though you’ll mostly use the rubber ball, there are other forms to discover throughout your journey!
Once more, this game is available on Nintendo Switch, courtesy of the QUByte Classic series. After completing your adventure, don’t forget to explore the Gallery section under Extras, featuring concept art and designs for the game’s bosses, characters, and various enemies. Glover awaits on the Nintendo Switch, priced at $19.99.
To sum up our review, Glover offers a classic 3D platforming experience, though it may feel a bit too nostalgic for some modern players.
