As we draw closer to a new installment of Grand Theft Auto, the anticipation for GTA 6 is building up, with a projected release in the Fall of 2025. This leaves us ample time to delve into what Rockstar Games might have in store. One interesting rumor making the rounds is the possibility that the Standard Edition of the game might not include GTA Online. Instead, the beloved online component could be launched as a separate purchase.
In an intriguing discussion on GTA Forums, well-known GTA leaker Tez2 shed some light on this possibility. According to Tez2, there’s a chance that the exciting online mode will not come bundled with the GTA 6 Standard Edition at launch. This move wouldn’t be entirely unexpected, given that standalone versions of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2’s online modes are already available for $19.99. However, launching them separately right from the start would be a first.
Tez2 suggests that such a decision might be strategically advantageous for both Take-Two Interactive and the players. For the company, offering the online portion at a reduced price could entice more players to try it out, following the example set by GTA 5. From the players’ perspective, this could mean enjoying the story mode priced at the now customary $70.
Tez2 shared their thoughts, saying, “T2 might benefit from pricing the online standalone lower, making it accessible to those who can’t fork out $70 or $80. Over time, these gamers may decide to upgrade for the story mode, creating a positive cycle for the company.” They continued, “There’s also an opportunity here for players eager to dive into the story but find the upgrade too steep. That’s when something like GTA+, offering Game Pass-style access, could come into play. This strategy would allow T2 to earn from continuous subscriptions instead of relying solely on upgrades, achieving another win-win.”
Continuing this line of thought, Tez2 emphasized, “The big win for us players is if the online standalone is priced reasonably, keeping the entire package at the standard $70 instead of skyrocketing prices.”
There’s been chatter among fans predicting that GTA 6 could start at a hefty $100. However, it’s important to note that these discussions are purely speculative at this stage. Neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two Interactive has confirmed any of this information. Until official announcements are made, it’s wise to approach these rumors with a degree of skepticism.
