Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, recently shared insights on why the company chose June 5, 2025, to roll out the Nintendo Switch 2.
Historically, Nintendo’s consoles, like the Wii and Wii U, have debuted in November, while the original Switch made its appearance in March. Bowser noted that there isn’t a “set schedule” for console launches.
Instead, Nintendo focused on having the right games ready to accompany the new console. They also saw its hybrid design as ideal for those traveling during the summer months.
In an interview with NPR, Bowser stated, “We see the year as a full opportunity without strict launch windows for video games. After considering our game lineup and the hardware, we decided June was perfect.”
He emphasized the appeal of the Switch 2 as a versatile device for both home gaming and portable play, making it perfect for summer journeys.
On June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 will hit stores globally, priced at £395.99 in the UK, €469.99 in Europe, and $449.99 in the US.
