NVIDIA’s latest driver updates have thrown a wrench into the works for users of GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs, and even some older models, yet the company remains silent on the burgeoning issues.
### RTX 40 Series Hindered by Latest Driver Update
Since the introduction of the RTX 50 series in January, NVIDIA seems to have shifted its attention, leaving the RTX 40 series somewhat neglected. While it’s not uncommon for companies to prioritize newer products, the RTX 50 series faced its share of bugs, like the dreaded BSODs. The RTX 40 series, however, had been running smoothly until the release of the RTX 50-compatible drivers wreaked havoc.
Reddit user u/Soctty1992 recently shared their struggles with the 572.XX drivers, highlighting a slew of similar user complaints. Many report facing drastic issues such as system crashes, black screens, and display glitches—problems that were scarcely seen before this troublesome update.
> Reddit posts are buzzing with warnings: NVIDIA’s latest drivers are causing widespread crashes and display issues, needing urgent attention and fixes, as noted by u/Scotty1992.
Interestingly, many users found relief by reverting to the 566.XX drivers, the ones available before NVIDIA’s 30th January release of the 572.16 driver for the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. The introduction of exciting features like DLSS 4, Multi-Frame Generation, and DLSS Override with the RTX 50 series didn’t universally cause trouble, but the combination of certain settings appears to be at the root of these persistent issues.
One gamer reported that their RTX 4080 would crash consistently at the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, a problem resolved only by rolling back to the older driver version. Meanwhile, another user with an RTX 4090 faced a slew of issues, from black screens to unresponsive monitors, all remedied by reverting to 566.XX.
These cries for help haven’t escaped the notice of NVIDIA’s forums, yet the company’s focus appears to have been on sorting out RTX 50 series BSODs, which eventually got fixed after a delay. As a consequence, RTX 40 series owners have often felt compelled to regress to previous drivers, unfortunately forgoing the latest advancements like the Transformer Model DLSS 4 and enhanced Ray Reconstruction, as well as missing out on newly supported DLSS games.
