The past few weeks have been a real challenge for Strategist players in Marvel Rivals. Healing’s tough as it is, but imagine trying to do that while a Spider-Man player swoops in from nowhere to knock you back to the spawn point. In the current meta, where the quickest heroes dominate, Strategist players are really having to step up just to keep their heads above water. However, there might be some relief coming soon with the mid-season patch.
In a Dev Talk post last Friday, NetEase openly addressed the ongoing support crisis that’s been affecting players since season 2 kicked off. This season, highly agile heroes, like Iron Fist, are in the spotlight, pushing Strategists to the limit. They’re forced to juggle keeping an eye on teammates’ health, using their abilities wisely, and maintaining smart positioning on the map, as NetEase explained.
To ease some of this burden, NetEase plans to increase support characters’ damage to boost their threat levels, which should open up more team composition options. They’ll also make Groot and Captain America a bit easier to eliminate, and that annoying Spider-Man uppercut will be trickier to pull off.
Expect the patch to roll out in early May, and it’s the same update that will introduce Ultron to the lineup. As per an official video, Ultron is set to be a Strategist.
With the fast pace at which NetEase is adding new heroes to the game, these reactive patches might be crucial for maintaining balance. They’ve expressed a desire to proceed carefully, avoiding any drastic shifts, by tweaking things gradually. Providing support players with a fighting chance is a positive move, aiming to keep the game engaging for everyone, even those built to take them down.
