The upcoming season of MultiVersus marks the end of the line for this popular crossover fighting game. On Friday, Warner Bros. Games made it official, announcing that they will be wrapping up development on MultiVersus. Players should take note that the game will be going offline on May 30, coinciding with the conclusion of season 5.
Even after this cutoff date, MultiVersus will still be accessible for offline play, allowing players to enjoy it locally and against AI characters. However, the game will no longer be available for download after 9 a.m. PDT on May 30. Additionally, Warner Bros. Games has already ceased real-money transactions, meaning the premium currency, Gleamium, is no longer up for grabs.
As we get ready to dive into season 5, fans can look forward to two new characters joining the fray: Aquaman from DC Comics and the beloved Lola Bunny from the Looney Tunes universe. The content for this final season, including access to these exciting characters, can all be earned through gameplay. Circle February 4 on your calendars, as that’s when this much-anticipated season kicks off.
Expressing gratitude, WB Games released a heartfelt statement thanking every player who has ever supported MultiVersus. They shared their appreciation for the community’s incredible support and emphasized the dedication and effort poured into the game by the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams.
Launched initially in July 2022 as an open beta, MultiVersus had a promising start under the collaboration of Warner Bros. and Player First. Nearly a year later, the team took the game offline to enhance its netcode, improve matchmaking, and tweak the progression system. They also worked on adding new characters, maps, and modes to ensure a continuous rollout of fresh content. Upon its relaunch in May 2024, the game returned with a slew of updates and character additions. However, some changes didn’t resonate as expected with the audience, and despite impressive launches, interest in the game dwindled, as reflected in Steam Charts and Twitch viewership figures.
By the time season 5 wraps up, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 unique characters, drawing from various film, television, and comic book franchises. Fans have had the pleasure of playing as iconic figures like Batman, Superman, Rick and Morty, and Tom and Jerry, among others. Since its return in 2024, developers have also introduced fresh faces, including Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, Agent Smith from The Matrix, the Powerpuff Girls, and the mischievous Beetlejuice.
The free-to-play title remains available for download on several platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, inviting players to experience its diverse character lineup before it goes offline.
