Oh no. The dreaded Meridia black hole in Helldivers 2 has finally collided with Angel’s Venture, the planet it had been ominously approaching. The result is nothing short of catastrophic; the planet has met a spectacular end. Understandably, Arrowhead has called for a time of remembrance for those lost in this cosmic calamity.
It was always on the cards that Angel’s Venture was in trouble. Evacuation orders had already been issued, and as the last directive concluded, that massive purple black hole on a collision course for Super Earth obliterated the planet in an extraordinary display.
“Angel’s Venture has been torn apart by the Meridian Singularity,” Arrowhead announced in a tweet accompanied by a news update to inform all who missed the live event.
“The Illuminate, pretending to be so refined and intelligent, have shown their true colors: chaos,” the message continued. “In response, the President of Super Earth has declared a 24-hour period of Galaxy-wide mourning.”
For many, especially the helldivers, this is a somber moment, despite the awe-inspiring spectacle. It’s undeniably a significant loss. This sentiment was echoed by a Reddit user known as ‘DickBallsley,’ who had previously inspired confidence that they could avert the disaster, having boldly stated, “Y’all acting as if I would let that happen.”
In a reflective follow-up post, they confessed, saying, “I’m sorry everyone, I might have overdone it.” They admitted, “Going all out was not the best idea,” and promised, “Next time I’ll read what it says on the packet, this one’s on me.”
Naturally, their fellow divers couldn’t resist sharing the famous Obi-Wan Kenobi “You were the chosen one” GIF.
As the community grieves, the struggle is far from over. The Meridia Singularity is now directly threatening Super Earth, with more celestial bodies potentially in its path. It seems likely that the next mission will focus on slowing its advance while fending off further Illuminate offensives. Let’s hope the second attempt is more successful than this initial endeavor.
