The Helldivers have just pulled off a remarkable feat. After tirelessly working for over a week, they’ve managed to gather enough Element-710 to fuel the Penrose Energy Siphon and deploy it smack dab in the middle of the Meridian Singularity. The Illuminate had been advancing this singularity steadily towards Super Earth. Fortunately, the Siphon stepped in just in time, drawing in a hefty amount of the Dark Energy propelling the black hole. Now, players in Helldivers 2 are presented with a golden opportunity to halt it once and for all.
Originally, this looming singularity was on a collision course past Super Earth. However, thanks to the Penrose Energy Siphon’s game-changing interference, there’s a chance to stop it dead in its tracks before any cataclysmic damage unfolds. Achieving this requires players to pull off “a sustained and intense suppression of Illuminate Dark Energy accumulation.” This boils down to overtaking six Illuminate invasions within an intense three-day window.
“The Helldivers are ordered to heavily suppress Illuminate invasion events for the next several days,” states the Major Order briefing from the Super Earth High Command. “If successful, this will free Super Earth from the Singularity’s path of destruction. Nothing is more critical than the security of Democracy’s heart.”
When you see that strategic setup with fire-resistant armor, the Double-Edged Sickle from the Servants of Freedom Warbond is a stellar choice against the Illuminate.
Successfully fending off six invasions in just three days is a massive undertaking. Yet, the Helldivers have met challenges head-on. At the moment, one invasion has been thwarted, and a second looks poised for the same fate soon after this article goes live. That leaves four more assaults, with over two days to counteract them, presenting a favorable shot at success.
To bolster efforts, players now have access to a fresh stratagem: the E/GL-21 Grenadier Battlement. This is essentially a barricade topped with a grenade launcher, providing excellent cover and firepower against those laser-wielding threats. If the Major Order is a success, the stratagem will become a permanent addition for all players. You can get a glimpse of its capabilities in the clip below.
The Grenadier Battlement is proving invaluable. Its grenades are efficient against the hordes of Voteless zombies and their Overseer leaders. From what I’ve gathered, its barrier can withstand a respectable amount of fire, even from Harvesters. Conveniently, its cooldown is just about two minutes, so you can frequently bring down these fortifications in critical moments.
With the current pace, I’d be surprised if this Major Order wasn’t achieved, though the Illuminate might shake things up with attacks across different fronts, demanding strategic multitasking from players. Should that scenario materialize, rallying the community on platforms like r/Helldivers will be vital to devise an effective plan, especially given past coordination shortcomings during Major Orders.
While the prospect of halting the Meridian black hole is thrilling, a niggling worry persists—it may be the calm before the storm (shh, don’t tell the Democracy Officer!). The recent discovery of cryptic messages hints at a possible grand-scale Illuminate invasion, and disturbingly, Super Earth’s latest dispatch calls the Singularity a “wormhole”—potentially a cosmic bridge between distant points. Could the Illuminate be inching the Singularity closer merely as a precursor to unleash their full might?
Whether this theory holds water, or it’s mere squid conspiracy, remains to be seen—but we’ll know soon enough, assuming the Major Order gets completed. Without success, the thriving colony of Ivis may share the tragic fate of Moradesh and Angel’s Venture, obliterated by the wormhole.
Helldivers 2 ranks as one of the most engaging titles for co-op shooter enthusiasts on both PC and PS5, delivering intense sci-fi elements, riotous physics, and sharp satire. Regularly priced at $40, you might snag it for less by hunting for deals. At present, you can grab it for approximately $27 from CDKeys, trimming over $13 from the usual cost.
