Flösser, Formerly with IO and Square Enix, Launches Wombo Games Studio

Janos Flösser, who you might remember as the former managing director of Hitman’s creators, IO Interactive, has just unveiled his latest venture: Wombo Games.

His new studio is diving into the world of strategy roguelikes with their first title, Raiders of Blackveil. Gamers can get their hands on it when it hits Early Access this summer.

Wombo Games came to life in 2023. Flösser, who has quite an impressive resume, spent nearly a decade at IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008. After that, he took on the role of chief creative officer at Square Enix until 2016. He didn’t stop there; he went on to become the CEO of Crey Games and has also been a partner and later a senior partner at Promentum Capital. Clearly, Flösser knows his way around the industry.

In a conversation with GamesBeat, Flösser shared his vision for Wombo Games: “We wanted to keep [the studio] small and nimble and see how far we could push it,” he said.

With funding secured, the team kicked off in July 2023. Remarkably, they had a playable version within just a month and a half. Investors played it early on and fell in love with the concept, continuously engaging with it ever since. Flösser noted that it was the first time he saw investors so enthusiastic about both the team and the game concept. Thanks to this passion, they managed to secure funding three times over the past two years. For now, their primary focus is creating the right game for the right audience, making sure they hit the mark.
