There’s no shortage of ambitious projects where fans attempt to merge elements from one Fallout game into another, but here’s one that really caught my eye and makes perfect sense: bringing Fallout: New Vegas to life within The Sims 2. Introducing The Sims 2: New Vegas, a fan-made “remaster” that underscores how wonderfully creative Fallout fans can be when they channel their boredom into something productive.
This is a developing project, as noted by TheGamer, and it’s gathering interest on a subreddit dedicated to its progress. The mastermind behind this endeavor is Baron Pulitzer, who goes by FalloutPropMaster on the internet. By day, he’s involved with an independent film production company, but his free time has recently been consumed by this fascinating effort, which has been ongoing for about a week.
A post on the subreddit by Baron states, “I got tired of waiting for a remastered version of Fallout: New Vegas,” detailing the inspiration behind this venture. He dreams of a remaster that revisits some of the cut content from Fallout: New Vegas’s in-house beta. After stumbling upon some uploads by a user named ‘lilipad’ on ModTheSims, featuring a couple of casinos on the New Vegas Strip recreated for The Sims 2, he felt motivated to embark on this unique recreation project. While he has experience modding Fallout 3 and New Vegas, modding The Sims is uncharted territory for him, but it’s a learning opportunity he’s eager to embrace.
In the last week, Baron rediscovered tools from over a decade ago—like Milkshape, FOMM, Blender, and Nifscope. The experience has been a nostalgic trip down memory lane combined with a fresh hobby to consume his leisure time.
So far, he’s mapped out potential locations for various buildings in his Mojave Wasteland neighborhood, which will prominently feature The Strip and Freeside. His first creation? An impressive replica of Goodsprings’ Prospector Saloon—an essential starting point for any true New Vegas project.
He’s also dabbling in character creations. There are snapshots of beloved NPC Vulpes Inculta hanging with some ghouls and engaging in a casual game of kickball. Plus, there’s a household of companions likely reminiscing about their adventures with a certain courier who used them as human shields while maintaining a steady diet of stimpaks.
One of the more intriguing updates includes a redesigned user interface for The Sims 2, resembling that iconic Fallout aesthetic, which adds a touch of authenticity.
This project is definitely something to keep an eye on, especially if you’re currently revisiting The Sims 2 through the Legacy Collection remaster. It could just spark a desire to wander the Mojave once more—maybe as a cannibal trying to take down Mr. House, who unfortunately becomes vilified while sampling a Caesar’s salad, eventually leading you down the path of an independent Vegas because the NCR keeps giving you strange glances.
