CD Projekt RED has just launched update 2.21 for Cyberpunk 2077, targeting all current-gen platforms. This latest patch smooths over several pesky issues and introduces improvements we’ve all been waiting for. Notably, it tackles a glitch in the "Run This Town" mission that prevented players from deactivating the Aguilar imprint. Let’s dive into what this update has in store.
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.21 Patch Notes (January 23, 2025)
Here’s a breakdown of the complete patch notes:
Photo Mode
This update brings a fresh breath to Photo Mode. You can now summon Nibbles and Adam Smasher even while airborne or submerged, enhancing your creative possibilities. Additionally, several quirks with Adam’s facial expressions and missing elements of his cyberware have been resolved. Those who’ve opted for Johnny’s alternate appearance will find that bugs causing both spawn options to default to his alternate look have been fixed.
Characters spawned will no longer jerkily snap to the ground, and they’ll be properly saved in your presets. After adding a background, spawned characters will remain visible, a previous frustration for many. V’s rotation and position settings are now reliably preserved, and the tricky Up/Down slider issue has been sorted.
In apologies to ghosts of NPCs past, those vanishing after disabling the Surrounding NPCs option will no longer haunt collision zones. Light sources won’t appear undesirably, and camera settings won’t need a couple of nudges to kick in. Full Collision should no longer get cameras stuck in walls. You’ll also notice no weird shifts when enabling a background, ensuring seamless transitions.
The camera will now pan and rotate flawlessly with the backgrounds introduced, removing any hang-ups—a win for all you shutterbugs out there. Other naggy bits like UI inconsistencies, unexplained disappearances of items, and unresponsive Photo Mode access have been ironed out too.
Vehicle Color Customization
For the vehicle enthusiasts, this patch corrects various texture and color issues affecting vehicles treated with CrystalCoat. You’ll find clarity in the Autofixer tutorial, where the spray paint icon explanation was MIA after completing a vehicle contract. Minor UI headaches in the CrystalCoat and TwinTone menus have been tidied up.
Character Creation
Your journey through Character Creation has become smoother, with the Randomizer settings now sticking around through the Customize Attributes step. And if your V starts with no piercings but wants some bling later, the Piercing Color option won’t elude you. Other minor hiccups, like appearance glitches and UI misbehavior, have been addressed.
Miscellaneous Tweaks
"Run This Town" fans rejoice—the update solves the deactivation issue for Aguilar’s imprint following a Bennett meeting. Johnny will no longer make double appearances during quests, which has been a minor nuisance. Various NPC and vehicle behaviors across Night City have been straightened out.
Vendors will now engage you as expected, and TV news channel voiceovers have the right presence again. The Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech will proudly wear its description, not that of the ‘740. Meanwhile, the pop-up informing players of new version 2.2 features will now correctly appear in the main menu.
Console-Specific Fixes
Xbox users can celebrate: those annoying blank screenshots in the Gallery when using HDR10 are a thing of the past. You’ll be duly notified when screenshots can’t be accessed due to privacy settings. Additionally, the Gallery reflects accurately any screenshots deleted outside its interface, while Xbox Series S graphics defaults to Performance mode, aligning with general expectations.
PC-Specific Updates
A nod to the PC gaming community—support for DLSS 4 featuring Multi Frame Generation has arrived, tailored especially for GeForce RTX 50 Series cards. This enhancement boosts frame rates using AI to create up to thrice the frames per traditionally generated one. The update also offers a toss-up between the CNN and new Transformer DLSS models, promising sharper detail and better lighting in motion.
You’ll appreciate reduced artifacting when employing DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and any mishaps when switching off Resolution Scaling have been corrected. These refinements ensure a smoother, more visually stunning experience for players on PC.
With these comprehensive improvements across the board, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to evolve, cementing its place in the gaming realm as a masterclass in updates and innovation. Enjoy your enhanced Night City adventure!
