Sony Interactive Entertainment is stepping up with some compensation following the major PSN outage over the weekend, but there’s a little snag. Only those who are currently PS Plus subscribers can benefit from this offer—a complimentary five-day extension of their membership. For everyone else, it’s simply a heartfelt apology.
### PSN February 2025 Outage Marks the Longest Downtime since 2011
This past weekend, PSN went offline for nearly an entire day, setting a record for the longest disruption since the notorious hack back in 2011, which left the network down for almost a month. Following that incident, Sony compensated all players with free games.
This time around, however, only PS Plus members will see any restitution. Those who do not subscribe and missed out on games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and other online favorites during the lead-up to Super Bowl Sunday are met with the assurance that their personal data remains intact.
Sony released a statement on social media but did not specify what went wrong with the network. They did attribute it to “operational” issues. This is likely Sony’s way of clarifying that there wasn’t a security breach and user data wasn’t compromised. Nonetheless, it’s always wise to err on the side of caution, so we suggest you go ahead and change your passwords and review the payment details linked to your account.
If we get any further information about this PSN outage, we’ll let you know. As for the extra PS Plus days, you don’t need to lift a finger. It will be applied to your account automatically.
