NVIDIA and AMD are gearing up for a big showdown in the budget-friendly GPU market this May. Both companies are aiming to capture the mainstream GPU segment with their upcoming releases, the RTX 5060 and RX 9060 XT.
In recent times, gamers seeking affordable GPUs have faced quite a challenge. NVIDIA’s latest-generation options have been tough to find, largely due to low inventory, driving prices up beyond their suggested retail values. AMD hasn’t had it much easier either; the high demand for their RX 9070 series has made scoring one at its MSRP pretty uncommon. But relief may be on the horizon. According to a report by Benchlife, both NVIDIA and AMD are set to introduce new options for everyday consumers as early as next month.
Let’s start with NVIDIA. They’re all set to roll out the GeForce RTX 5060 on May 19. This card is packed with 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, running at a speedy 28 Gbps over a 128-bit memory bus. However, you might notice a bump in power usage, with the RTX 5060 sporting a 35W increase in TDP compared to the RTX 4060. Here’s how it measures up to its predecessor:
– 25% more CUDA Cores
– The same memory capacity
– Faster GDDR7 Memory at 28 Gbps
– Increased bandwidth by 64%
– 30% higher power rating
Meanwhile, on the AMD front, we’re looking forward to the Radeon RX 9060 XT, expected to make its debut on May 21 at Computex. However, it might not hit retail shelves until June. This GPU will feature the Navi 44 die and come in both 8GB and 16GB configurations, much like NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Ti. It’s also equipped with 2,048 SPs, which is half of what the Radeon RX 9070 XT offers. With game clocks set at 2620 MHz and boost clocks at 3230 MHz, the RX 9060 XT promises impressive performance for 1080p and 2K gaming.
We’ll be bringing you live updates from the Computex 2025 show floor, including sneak peeks if we can manage it. The mid-tier GPU competition is heating up, and May might just be a pivotal month for gamers on a budget.
