While my colleagues are busy toasting and celebrating the surprise release of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, those of us who keep our eyes on what lies ahead will be pleased to hear that Todd Howard has reaffirmed the existence of The Elder Scrolls 6! Yes, he even went on to say that the team is actively working on it.
His exact words, shared amidst a cornucopia of Oblivion Remaster news and clips, were, “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
Incredible, right? This tidbit is the most substantial news we’ve received about The Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024. Back then, Bethesda disclosed that initial builds of ES6 were out for testers and even hinted that the game was enjoyable, which is certainly what we all hope for.
Before that, we got a red-hot update thanks to a former Skyrim designer, who suggested that updates on ES6 wouldn’t emerge until a mere six months before its release. That was back in October 2023. Just a month prior, Phil Spencer humorously suggested that ES6 might be five years away from its release date! At the time, it seemed a bit of a joke, but here we are, nearly two years later, and still scant concrete details to hold on to.
It’s worth mentioning that when it comes to real updates from Bethesda, it’s been all quiet for years. In August 2023, they confirmed that development had begun, around five years after its grand debut at E3. Call me crazy, but do you think they might have announced it just a tad prematurely?
In all seriousness, it is nice to see at least a flicker of progress with Elder Scrolls 6. It feels like ages have passed! When it was first announced, I was still in school, and now here I am, grappling with bills, bad habits, and dating apps. Bethesda, still arguably the top first-person RPG creator, is surely crafting something amazing. Just please, maybe throw us a bone with some concept art? Honestly, Liam Neeson had more evidence of his daughter’s existence in Taken than we fans have of this game being real.
Feel free to share your thoughts below—do you still get excited? Plus, how much student loan debt do you reckon I’ll have by the time Elder Scrolls 6 finally launches?
