As the PlayStation 5 takes the spotlight as the main gaming hub for PlayStation enthusiasts, it’s inevitable that the spotlight will gradually dim on the PS4. One stand-out example is a well-loved MMORPG that’s phasing out its PS4 version, though fortunately, players can transition to the next-gen version without any extra cost.
## Black Desert Online for PS4 is Saying Farewell
Pearl Abyss has revealed that it’s time to bid adieu to Black Desert Online on PS4 and Xbox One. Fans of this massive multiplayer online role-playing game have just a few months left to enjoy it on these consoles. The game’s PS4 and Xbox One journey will draw to a close during maintenance scheduled for June 26. The silver lining? Players can switch to the updated version at no charge, and, conveniently, all accounts and purchases will seamlessly carry over.
“Don’t worry about your data; it’s safe with us,” assures Brian Choi, Black Desert Console Live Service Manager, regarding the shift from PS4 to PS5. “Everything relating to your account and Black Desert entitlements will be ready for you once you decide to make the leap to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console. We recognize that this may come as a letdown for some, especially since we’ve worked tirelessly to enrich the adventures in Black Desert with continuous updates.”
Choi further explains, “Despite efforts to enhance the experience and update the game for older consoles, we’ve hit a wall where the hardware can no longer deliver the latest content effectively. After thorough consideration, we’re choosing to dedicate our efforts to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series to ensure a more stable and enriched experience.”
When Black Desert Online debuted in the U.S. in 2016, it received a range of reviews. Based on Metacritic’s data, it garnered an average score of 73 from 35 different critics, with its PS4 and Xbox One versions making their first appearances in 2019.
