Assassin’s Creed Shadows has kicked off to an impressive start, attracting a huge number of players and garnering enthusiastic approval from many who were understandably cautious after the game’s repeated delays.
In light of the game’s release, the team at Ubisoft responsible for Shadows shared a heartfelt message on Reddit. They expressed gratitude to fans for their discussions about the game that haven’t been as contentious as previous conversations. Over the past year, discussions often got heated concerning the portrayal of Japanese culture, with input from Japanese voices sometimes blending with dissent from internet critics. These critics include those opposing the inclusion of a black samurai, all while Ubisoft faced an uncertain future.
One notable aspect is how team members have appreciated the subreddit for the game, finding it a great place to see player feedback post-launch. In a post attributed to the developers of Shadows, they shared, “This weekend, many of us on the Dev Team spent time reading your reactions across the Assassin’s Creed subreddit — and we just want to say thank you. The sheer amount of love and positivity we’ve received has been incredibly heartwarming.
“Your enthusiasm, thoughtful reactions, and joy mean the world to us. After years of hard work, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the community engage with what we’ve created. While we don’t reply directly, please know we’re listening. The entire Dev Team has been reading your posts — the celebrations, the feedback, the theories — and it’s been inspiring. It fuels us. And it helps us keep improving.”
They continued, “Thank you for being part of this journey with us. This is just the beginning for Shadows, and we’re thrilled to see the game evolve with you by our side.”
The message wrapped up with a playful nod to the community, quoting a line familiar to Assassin’s Creed fans: “Where other men blindly follow the truth, remember…nothing is true.” It’s a nod any fan of the series would recognize, recalling a moment from the creed spoken to Ezio in Assassin’s Creed 2 before a rather memorable incident involving his finger.
If you’re eager to address any issues you encounter in Shadows, waiting for an official response from the team isn’t your only option. A growing number of mods are emerging, offering early tweaks and enhancements to the game.
