EA Releases Original Source Code, Bringing Major Update to Command and Conquer Series

Fifteen years have passed since we last saw the dawn of Command & Conquer’s Tiberian Twilight, and if you’re a devoted fan of Westwood and EA’s groundbreaking RTS series, it could easily feel like the spark had flickered out. Yet, with the unexpected flair of a hacker navigating the digital realm, the Command & Conquer saga has been brought back to life. Following the success of the C&C Remastered collection in 2020 and a recent migration to Steam through the Ultimate Collection, EA has unveiled the source code for games like Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert, alongside numerous other titles in the series. They’ve also beefed up modding support for the entire collection. They have released the fully restored source code for Tiberian Dawn (originally Command & Conquer 1995), Red Alert, Renegade, Generals, and C&C Zero Hour under a general public license. This opens the doors for modders and map creators to dive deep into the mechanics of these games and let their creativity run wild.

Excitingly, EA has also rolled out full Steam Workshop support for titles like Command & Conquer Renegade, C&C Generals, Zero Hour, Tiberium Wars, Kane’s Wrath, Red Alert 3, Uprising, and C&C 4. The mission editor and world builder tools have gotten a refresh, making it easier than ever for players to create and share custom maps directly on Steam Workshop. Plus, they’ve introduced a Command & Conquer modding support pack. This pack includes all the essential Xml, Schema, Script, Shader, and map files for games utilizing SAGE (Strategy Action Game Engine).
