Recently, chatter about malfunctioning GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs has been making waves, prompting NVIDIA to launch an investigation.
NVIDIA has initiated a probe in response to growing concerns over bricked RTX 5090 and the Chinese-specific RTX 5090D GPUs. In the past few days, these issues have not only intensified but also left many users scrambling for solutions that seem to be elusive. While a few individuals have resorted to unconventional methods to tackle the problem, most affected users still find their GPUs non-functional.
With the hiccup gaining traction, it was only a matter of time before NVIDIA had to address it publicly. In a conversation with PC Gamer, NVIDIA confirmed they are looking into the reported glitches concerning the RTX 50 series, stating simply, “We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.” That’s the extent of it at this point, but the acknowledgment itself is a step forward. For those out of the loop, check out our article from a few days ago that goes into detail about the issue. In essence, many RTX 5090 and 5090D units fail to display anything on the monitor after users apply the latest driver update, resulting in nothing but a black screen.
Frustratingly, downgrading to an earlier driver doesn’t solve the problem, since the card remains undetected by the computer. Some folks have even tried resetting their BIOS settings to no avail. The GPU stubbornly refuses to appear in both the Device Manager and BIOS.
While the exact cause remains a mystery, some speculate it might be related to the architecture or driver compatibility rather than the physical components themselves. Until NVIDIA provides further insights, a definitive fix for the RTX 5090/5090D bricking mystery remains out of reach.
