This past week has been buzzing with what appear to be legitimate leaks revealing the final design of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. The buzz reached new heights yesterday when Dbrand stunned the gaming community by releasing a detailed 3D render of the Nintendo Switch 2. This includes a version of Dbrand’s Killswitch carrying case, revamped specifically for the Switch 2. In a conversation with The Verge, Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz shared that the company got their hands on the actual dimensions of the Switch 2 by conducting a 3D scan of the real hardware. When assembled with Joy-Cons, it measures roughly 270mm in width, and 200mm without them. Its height is around 116mm, with a thickness of 14mm.
The leaked model of the Nintendo Switch 2 supposedly boasts a significantly larger 8-inch screen, a step up from the Switch OLED’s 7.2-inch and the original Switch’s 6.2-inch displays. An intriguing new “C” button, possibly standing for capture, is included on the right Joy-Con. Other notable features include Joy-Con controllers that detach magnetically and have a more noticeable curve, USB-C ports on both the top and bottom, and a wide U-shaped kickstand reminiscent of the improved stand on the Switch OLED.
With a potential release timeframe eyeing Q1 2025, the design of the Switch 2 appears to be a meaningful evolution from the Switch OLED. However, it’s being speculated that an OLED screen won’t be part of the package. Instead, most leaks point towards an 8-inch 1080p IPS LCD, expected to be a vast improvement over the current Switch LCD quality.
As for the Killswitch case developed by Dbrand, it diverges from their usual design elements like full-body enclosure seen in previous models for devices such as the Steam Deck. Considering the Switch 2’s magnetic Joy-Cons, the case seems to comprise separate parts secured together by a teal bungee cord. It’s both striking and promising, given Dbrand’s solid reputation in the protective case market.
If you’re yearning for a more untouched glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2, you may still be waiting for a while longer. However, the specifications leaked by Dbrand align with a 3D-printed mock-up that the YouTube channel SwitchUp showcased earlier this week. This should offer some insight into how the original unit might feel in hand.
Dbrand’s detailed leak, presumably not restrained by a non-disclosure agreement, points toward an imminent announcement and release for the Nintendo Switch 2. Previous estimates indicated a launch window before the end of 2024, and Nintendo itself has marked March 2025 as the deadline by which the console details will be officially disclosed. That deadline is fast approaching, and meanwhile, companies like Dbrand are ramping up both production and anticipation for Nintendo’s next groundbreaking handheld hybrid console.
